The Ghana Police Service, through the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), has apprehended ten individuals for allegedly establishing fraudulent online food delivery platforms to deceive unsuspecting customers.
The first six individuals — identified as Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah — were detained during a focused operation carried out on October 1, 2025, in Sogakope. This operation was initiated following extensive intelligence gathering, which resulted in the capture of three males and three females believed to be involved in the fraudulent activities.
Initial investigations disclosed that the suspects had set up counterfeit websites and social media accounts impersonating reputable food brands such as Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC, and Mawarko. Victims who placed orders through these fraudulent platforms were instructed to make advance payments via mobile money, after which they never received the food they had ordered.
Further inquiries revealed that, in certain instances, the suspects unlawfully accessed victims’ mobile money wallets and bank accounts under the pretense of assisting them with payments, subsequently withdrawing funds. Digital devices suspected to have being used in the fraudulent operations were seized and are currently undergoing forensic analysis.
Subsequent investigations culminated in the apprehension of the primary suspect on October 12, 2025, along with three others from their hideout in Haatso, Accra. The newly apprehended individuals include Elijah Sotama Etse, also known as Pop Smoke (the leader of the syndicate), Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli. Twelve mobile phones were confiscated from the suspects and are being preserved for forensic examination.
All ten suspects are presently in police custody and are scheduled to appear in court today, Monday, October 13, 2025.
The Ghana Police Service is encouraging individuals who may have been victims of this fraudulent scheme to report to the nearest police station in order to aid in the ongoing investigations.
