Leadership of National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) are asking Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to assist in resolving delays in disbursement of student loans. According to NUGS, hundreds of students are compelled to defer their courses due to the delays.


NUGS President Emmanuel Baokye Yiadom also asked the Vice President to ensure an increase in the loans given to student to cushion them financially for the academic year. Mr Baokye Yiadom said this after paying a courtesy call on the Vice President on Monday 26th July 2021.

Monday, 26th July, 2021 ,the leadership of NUGS met the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
We commended the government on the interventional policies in making education accessible to all. We also applauded the Vice President for his support to the Union over the years.
We drew the Vice President’s attention to the delay in payment of student loans leading to hundreds deferring their courses. We also lamented on the meager sum of money given to students as loans and called for an increment.We also appealed to him to help fast track the “no Guarantor policy” as well.
We informed H.E Dr. Bawumia of a petition sent to the Minister of Works and Housing for a lasting solution to the accommodation crisis. We suggested more government owned hostels to be built and also the formation of a coalition of private hostel owners to regulate the pricing.
Dr. Bawumia took keen interest in the security issues raised concerning GIMPA, KNUST. UCC ,UDS and other campuses , promising immediate action to curb them.
