Ghana’s dedication to providing sustainable and equitable energy access was reaffirmed during the Mission 300 Ghana Energy Compact Review Workshop, which took place in Accra on May 26, 2025.
This high-level gathering convened key stakeholders in the energy sector to assess and enhance the draft National Energy Compact—an ambitious initiative designed to guarantee universal access to clean, reliable, and affordable energy for all citizens of Ghana.
During the keynote address, Richard Gyan-Mensah, the deputy Energy Minister representing the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, highlighted the ministry’s strategic vision for reform.
“The government is committed to ensuring that every Ghanaian has fair access to sustainable, reliable, and affordable energy by promoting the adoption of renewable energy,” the representative stated. “We are enacting reforms in the energy sector aimed at restructuring utilities and encouraging competitive procurement.”
The workshop also featured active participation from the Deputy Minister of Finance, Hon. Thomas Nyarko Ampem, along with development partners, civil society organizations, and stakeholders from the private sector.
This event was organized as part of Ghana’s larger Mission 300 initiative, which aims to connect 300 communities to modern energy services by the year 2030.
Participants engaged in discussions regarding strategies for enhanced collaboration, efficiency, and investment in the production, distribution, and transmission of energy.
Richard Gyan-Mensah further emphasized the ministry’s willingness to form partnerships, committing to collaborate closely with donor agencies, financial institutions, and private sector entities to improve service quality and foster innovation throughout the sector.
Special thanks were given to Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), the World Bank, the African Development Bank (AfDB), and various energy agencies and civil society organizations for their ongoing support.
“Together, we can transform the vision of Mission 300 into a tangible reality for millions of Ghanaians. The moment to energize Ghana’s future is now,” Richard Gyan-Mensah remarked.
The workshop represented a significant milestone in Ghana’s path toward sustainable energy transformation, with stakeholders united in their dedication to providing inclusive and resilient energy solutions.
The Mission 300 Ghana Energy Compact is a strategic initiative of Ghana within the larger Mission 300 Africa program, which aims to connect 300 million individuals across Sub-Saharan Africa to electricity by the year 2030.
Initiated by the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank, this initiative aims to tackle the considerable energy access deficit in the region, where approximately 600 million people currently lack electricity.
