Manhyia Palace has postponed the hearing of a case concerning a relative of musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, widely recognized as Daddy Lumba, for invoking the Great Oath of the Asantehene.
This development follows an incident where Daddy Lumba’s sister, Ernestina Akosua Bimpomaa, invoked the Great Oath of the Asantehene during a court session on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. This case was initiated by Daddy Lumba’s first wife, Akosua Serwaa, who is contesting the rightful designation of the lawfully wedded wife of the deceased musician.
In accordance with Asante customs and traditions, matters involving the Great Oath are required to be settled at the Manhyia Palace, as the courts lack the jurisdiction to adjudicate such cases.
The family was summoned to the palace for a resolution on Monday, November 3, 2025; however, the hearing has been postponed due to an ongoing court case that is awaiting a verdict.
In the meantime, a Kumasi High Court has rejected an injunction application from Akosua Serwaa aimed at preventing the funeral rites of highlife icon Daddy Lumba.
The court confirmed that the authority over his remains belongs to his extended family, rather than his first wife, Akosua Serwaa, in line with Asante tradition.
With the injunction denied, the legal attention now turns to the central issue of determining who the primary surviving spouse is.
The court has instructed all parties to submit the necessary legal documents by Friday, October 31, in preparation for a Case Management Conference set for November 14, which will establish the framework for the main hearing, scheduled to commence on November 17.
The court anticipates that the hearing will conclude by November 21, with a final ruling on the overarching case expected on November 25.
