President John Mahama has announced plans to elevate certain nursing and midwifery colleges throughout the nation to degree-awarding institutions.
While addressing supporters during his Thank You tour in the Ahafo Region, Mr. Mahama indicated that this initiative is part of a larger vision aimed at enhancing tertiary education and bolstering healthcare delivery in Ghana.
“We will elevate selected nursing and midwifery colleges across the region to degree-awarding institutions. Additionally, we will persist in the distribution of buses to senior high schools and health training institutions to facilitate academic operations,” he remarked.
He expressed his belief that this transformation would enhance the quality of nursing and midwifery education, while also making a significant contribution to the advancement of the healthcare sector.
He reiterated the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s dedication to bridging the education gap, particularly in underserved regions.
“We are steadfast in our commitment to expanding tertiary education, especially in underserved areas. Accordingly, the NDC government will establish a university in the Ahafo Region to provide world-class programs in agriculture, natural resources, and health sciences,” he declared.
Mr. Mahama also assured that logistical support for educational institutions would be maintained. He emphasized the ongoing distribution of buses to senior high schools and health training colleges as part of efforts to alleviate transportation challenges and enhance teaching and learning conditions across the country.
