President John Mahama has instructed Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo to provide a preliminary response within ten days regarding three petitions that seek her removal from office.
This instruction was conveyed in a letter signed by the President’s Secretary, Dr. Callistus Mahama.
The directive follows a request made by Justice Torkonoo on Thursday, March 27, in which she asked the President for copies of the petitions.
In his reply, Mahama expressed his disappointment over the unauthorized disclosure of her request, which has circulated widely on social media.
While the specifics of the petitions remain ambiguous, the situation has ignited discussions concerning its legal and constitutional ramifications.
With the deadline established, Chief Justice Torkonoo is required to submit her response, or she may face further actions that could affect her position.
Legal experts indicate that her response will be pivotal in deciding the subsequent steps, including the possibility of a formal investigation into the petitions.
