Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State responsible for Government Communications, has reiterated the government’s stance that public funds will not be allocated for the construction of the contentious National Cathedral.
In his remarks, Kwakye Ofosu emphasized President John Dramani Mahama’s unwavering commitment to this position.
“The president has made it clear that we will not utilize public funds to advance this project,” he remarked.
Expressing his viewpoint, the Minister stated, “I firmly believe that a national cathedral is unnecessary. If religious organizations or churches wish to establish a cathedral and seek land from the government, and if the government provides it while they secure their own funding for construction, that is acceptable.
“However, I do not support the use of public funds for a national cathedral.”
Kwakye Ofosu underscored that this viewpoint has been consistently maintained by President Mahama, asserting that no taxpayer money will be allocated to the initiative.
“It is certain that President Mahama will not invest GHS400 million of taxpayers’ money into this project,” he concluded.
