The initial group of 425 potential Ghanaian Muslim pilgrims from the five northern regions has safely arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to undertake the 2025 Hajj.
The pilgrims were transported directly from the Yakubu Tali International Airport (TIA) in Tamale to Jeddah on Saturday, with additional groups scheduled to depart in the following days.
Approximately 6,000 pilgrims are anticipated to travel from Ghana to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage, reflecting an increase of 2,000 from the 4,000 pilgrims who participated last year from northern Ghana. Collins Dauda, the Chairman of the Interim Hajj Taskforce, along with the Northern Regional Minister, Adolf Ali John, the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, and other government officials, visited the prospective pilgrims at the airport to extend their farewells.
Alhaji Dauda urged prospective pilgrims to maintain discipline and adhere to the law during their time in Saudi Arabia, which is essential for the successful completion of their spiritual obligations.
He reassured them that comprehensive measures had been implemented to guarantee their safety and security in the holy land. Furthermore, he mentioned that provisions have been made for the pilgrims to receive daily meals throughout their stay in Madina, and that accommodations in reputable hotels have been arranged for them in Mecca.
Alhaji Muntaka extended his wishes for a safe and tranquil journey, assuring them of exceptional service quality. He emphasized that the interim Hajj taskforce had implemented all necessary arrangements to guarantee their comfort and well-being.
He encouraged them to take this opportunity to pray for peace and stability in the nation to foster development. Additionally, the Northern Regional Minister provided guidance to the prospective pilgrims on the necessary actions to complete their Hajj.
Several potential pilgrims who spoke with Graphic Online expressed their satisfaction with the preparations made by both the Hajj agents and the Hajj committee to facilitate a successful pilgrimage.
