Legal representatives for Kwabena Adu-Boahene, former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), expressed disappointment. The Supreme Court dismissed their motion to disqualify Justice John Eugene Nyante Nyadu from a case involving allegations that Adu-Boahene caused a financial loss of $49 million to the state.
A five-member panel of the Supreme Court unanimously rejected the application. The court ruled that it lacked merit and did not meet the criteria for disqualifying a trial judge.
After the ruling, Lead Counsel for the defendant, Samuel Atta Akyea, addressed the media, expressing that while the outcome was disappointing, the legal team remains steadfast.
“I am disappointed but not discouraged. We will monitor the case’s progress. The influence a judge should possess is the law. I will engage in a discussion or dispute with the judge. My focus will solely be on presenting the law, and that does not deter me in any way,” he remarked.
The proceedings against Mr. Adu-Boahene, who faces allegations of causing financial loss to the state, are anticipated to proceed before Justice Nyante Nyadu in the High Court.
