Government Statistician Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu stated that Ghana’s economy continues to demonstrate resilience despite facing external challenges, including the ongoing global tariff conflict.
Preliminary data from the Ghana Statistical Service reveals that the economy grew by 5.3% in the first quarter of 2025, an increase from the 4.9% recorded during the same timeframe in 2024.
During a press briefing, Government Statistician, Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, indicated that the most recent figures imply that Ghana has, thus far, successfully protected its economy from the negative impacts of global trade disputes.
“We are all aware of the current situation. Assuming all other factors remain constant, one might expect that the trade war and trade tensions would have a considerable dampening effect on growth. However, the growth figures for the first quarter of 2025 do not appear to indicate that the impact of these trade tensions is particularly significant for Ghana, although it is still early in the year. The data indicates that Ghana has been resilient and capable of absorbing the shocks related to trade tensions,” he remarked.
