The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revoked 701 Diplomatic and Service passports as part of a comprehensive recall of official travel documents.
A statement released on Tuesday indicated that this includes 341 Diplomatic passports that have not been returned and 360 Service passports, which have now been added to a stop list and are rendered invalid for international travel.
This cancellation follows previous public notices on January 15 and March 10, 2025, which directed former officials and other designated individuals to return their official passports.
The individuals affected comprise:
- Former Ministers and their spouses
- Former Members of Parliament
- Former Council of State members and their spouses
- Retired Justices of the Superior and Lower Courts
- Former Regional Ministers, MMDCEs, and board members
- Officials of the National Cathedral Project
- Former non-career ambassadors and their dependents
As well as Religious and traditional leaders, Businesspersons and entrepreneurs, and former government officials who are no longer in service.
The ministry emphasized that any passports found in use will be confiscated, with a warning of stringent enforcement at entry and exit points. This action is intended to ensure adherence to the Passports and Travel Certificates Act, 1967 (NLCD 155), specifically sections 6 and 7, which govern the issuance and utilization of official passports.
