Member of Parliament for Effia, Isaac Boamah-Nyarko, has criticized the Majority Caucus in Parliament for their lack of commitment to advancing government business.
His comments come in light of several occasions where Speaker Alban Bagbin has had to suspend sessions due to the House’s failure to achieve the necessary quorum for conducting government matters.
In an exclusive interview with Channel One News, Boamah-Nyarko pointed out the ongoing issue of low attendance among the majority of MPs, asserting that their irregular participation is obstructing the effective functioning of government operations.
“The Majority is not sufficiently facilitating government business. Their attendance has been inconsistent,” he stated.
Conversely, he commended the Minority Caucus for their collaborative efforts, noting that their emphasis has been on constructive dialogue and ensuring government accountability.
“With 183 members plus four independents totaling 187, they still struggle to gather 91 members to establish a quorum. What is the reason for this?
“They are not actively promoting or supporting government business, but we aim to be constructive. Our goal is to ensure that we hold the government accountable, which is the responsibility we bear as a minority,” he remarked.
