The Minority in Parliament is calling on the government to act promptly and intentionally to guarantee that the recent rise in the value of the Ghanaian cedi translates into significant relief for the populace.
The local currency has experienced a considerable appreciation against major foreign currencies in recent weeks, leading to public demands for a decrease in the prices of goods and services.
During a Leaders’ Media Briefing, Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei expressed her approval of the enhanced stability in the exchange rate but emphasized that its benefits must be experienced by the average Ghanaian.
“Everyone is pleased that the cedi has strengthened significantly, and the exchange rate is declining, but what is its impact on the cost of living despite the advantages we are witnessing?
“It is crucial that specific measures are implemented to ensure that the cedi’s downward trend against the dollar will be reflected in the cost of living in our nation,” she stated.
Appiagyei’s comments resonate with the increasing public opinion that the appreciating cedi should lead to a corresponding reduction in consumer prices, especially for imported goods.
