The committee of five members, appointed by President John Mahama to examine the petitions against Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, will commence its hearings today, May 15.
This committee, led by Supreme Court Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, was formed by Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution, following a preliminary determination against the Chief Justice in consultation with the Council of State.
The committee also includes Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu from the Supreme Court, former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo, Major Flora Bazwaanura Dalugo from the Ghana Armed Forces, and Professor James Sefah Dzisah, an Associate Professor at the University of Ghana.
It is anticipated that the committee will convene three times weekly and will submit its findings and recommendations to the President upon the completion of its investigation.
Chief Justice Torkornoo is currently facing five distinct petitions alleging misconduct.
In light of these allegations, President Mahama, after discussions with the Council of State, has suspended her from her position and assigned the committee to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the claims.
