Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo has officially reached out to President John Dramani Mahama, requesting copies of the petitions submitted against her that aim to remove her from her position.
This request follows the president’s receipt of three petitions, which he has forwarded to the Council of State for their counsel, in line with constitutional requirements.
In her correspondence, Chief Justice Torkonoo emphasized the significance of adhering to due process and requested access to the petitions so that she could formulate an appropriate response.
“I am writing this letter to respectfully request that His Excellency the President and the distinguished members of the Council of State send the petitions against me to my attention. I kindly ask for a minimum of seven days upon receiving these documents to prepare my response, which can then be included in the materials for the consultations anticipated under 146(6), prior to the potential establishment of a Committee of Inquiry as outlined in article 146(7),” a portion of her letter indicated.
