A violent chieftaincy clash at Gomoa Obuasi in the Central Region resulted in six injuries, including the head of the Asona Royal Family, Agya Amoh.
The incident occurred when a youth group supporting one faction attacked their rivals during a meeting in the Obuasi community, causing property damage.
According to news sources, the Omanhene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council, Obrempong Nyanful Krampah, who has jurisdiction over Gomoa Obuasi, recently appointed Kwabena Atta as caretaker chief following the death of the substantive chief. However, the town’s regent has refused to hand over to the caretaker chief, leading to ongoing confrontations.
“We were waiting to have a meeting, and suddenly, we saw stones flying through the air from outside at around 9 to 10 a.m. Several roofs of the palace have been destroyed, including two vehicles.
“They claim they do not fear the police and will continue to terrorize us. We had indications that they were planning to burn the entire place down, so we decided to leave the palace. The police have been duly informed,” Nana Mbir Asomako explained.
