The High Court in Accra has approved bail for Charles Bissue and Andy Owusu, setting the amount at GHc 200,000 each, accompanied by two sureties, one of whom must be verified.
The individuals face 15 charges related to corruption, including the misuse of office for personal benefit. Both defendants have entered a plea of not guilty and are mandated to surrender their passports to the court registry.
Additionally, they must report to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on a monthly basis as part of their bail stipulations.
The proceedings have been postponed until May 29. This action follows the charges brought forth by the Office of the Special Prosecutor against the two individuals.
Charles Bissue, who previously served as Secretary to the now-dissolved Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), and Andy Thomas Owusu are accused of participating in corrupt activities related to illegal mining operations.
According to the first charge, Bissue is purported to have exploited his public position for personal advantage, in violation of Section 179c (a) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
Court records suggest that he received GHC15,000 from Benjamin Adjapong through Andy Owusu on or about January 22, 2019, in Accra.
