During the esteemed Cambridge Africa Business Conference, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia delivered an inspiring address focused on purpose and advancement, asserting, ‘I was destined for this role.’
His remarks underscored a keynote speech that framed Africa’s digital evolution as not merely a policy objective but as a personal commitment.
Dr. Bawumia positioned himself as a proponent of Africa’s burgeoning digital landscape, encouraging African leaders and institutions to embrace this pivotal moment.
‘This is Africa’s opportunity,’ he stated to the audience. ‘We are experiencing a convergence of talent, innovation, and policy readiness that must be capitalized upon.’
His speech showcased Ghana’s progress in digitization, including mobile money interoperability and digital national identity systems. He contended that technology can enable Africa to bypass conventional development obstacles.
Using Ghana as an illustrative example, he detailed how technology has improved public service delivery, enhanced financial inclusion, and facilitated tax mobilization.
He stressed that Africa’s youth, with their vigor and digital proficiency, are essential for constructing sustainable economies and resilient institutions.
The former Vice President also advocated for increased collaboration among African governments, academia, and the private sector.
He underscored the significance of partnerships with universities such as Cambridge in fostering innovation and research that meets African needs.
‘Africa must invest in the intellect of its populace,’ he remarked, ‘and this investment starts with education and access to technology.’
