Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has reiterated his steadfast dedication to achieving lasting peace in Bawku and its neighboring regions.
This statement comes in the wake of a temporary halt to previous peace initiatives, which were hindered by a protracted chieftaincy conflict in the troubled Upper East Region.
Despite these obstacles, the Asantehene conveyed his optimism that recent mediation discussions with the opposing factions would result in a sustainable resolution.
During a meeting with a delegation from the UK Advanced Command and Staff Course at the Manhyia Palace, he emphasized the critical role of stability in fostering national development. ‘Peace is essential for our progress. It is my responsibility, along with the traditional leadership, to ensure peace prevails everywhere.
Thus, we strive to resolve conflicts promptly so that the government can operate effectively,’ he remarked.
He also addressed the recent tensions in the Bawku area, located near the Burkina Faso border, reaffirming his commitment to effective mediation.
‘There have been recent communal disputes in the northern part of Ghana, near Burkina Faso (Bawku), but we are exerting every effort to secure enduring peace,’ he affirmed.
