An Accra Circuit Court has given greenlight to the Ghana Police Service to destroy 256 fertilizer sacks of certified cannabis.

The Judge, Isaac Addo, instructed that the substances be destroyed in the presence of officials from the Police Service, Environmental Protection Authority, Narcotics Control Commission, a Government Analyst, and the media.

ASP Seth Frimpong, who moved the application for the order to destroy the narcotics, stated that some of the cannabis had been compressed into slaps.

He claimed that the exhibits are bulky and have taken up space in the Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Police CID, making administrative work difficult, not to mention the health risks.

According to ASP Frimpong, some of the evidence includes no suspects; the Attorney General’s Office has also advised against prosecuting some of the suspects; and in some cases, the accused have been dismissed for lack of prosecution.
