The Minority in Parliament has expressed reservations about the Electoral Commission’s (EC) plan to levy a GH₵0.50 fee to validate registration details during the ongoing Voter Exhibition activity.
This comes after the EC created the short code *71151# as an alternative way for voters to certify if their names are on the voter register ahead of the 2024 general election.
However, in a post on X, the MP for South Dayi, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor questioned the reason for the cost, noting that Parliament had previously approved the funding for the voter registration procedure.
‘Why is the Electoral Commission charging a price of GH0.50 for registered voters to check their name in the provisional register using the shortcode 71151#? “Who is getting these funds?” he enquired.
