The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has made a financial contribution of GH¢20,000 to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, commonly referred to as Mahama Care, with the objective of supporting initiatives aimed at combating breast cancer and providing medical assistance to patients in need of healthcare services.
This contribution was formally announced during the dedication of a commemorative sculpture at the Ministry’s premises, conducted as part of the observances for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Agbodza articulated that the donation represents the Ministry’s dedication to advancing the campaign against breast cancer and enhancing healthcare accessibility.
During remarks delivered at the ceremony on Monday, September 5, he disclosed that his commitment to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund was additionally motivated by personal circumstances involving his sister.
“Several months prior, when President Mahama inaugurated the Ghana Medical Trust Fund in the Volta Region, I contributed three months of my remuneration to the fund. Perhaps today clarifies my rationale for doing so. I made that contribution for my sister.”
He further communicated that the Ministry was unveiling a commemorative plaque to demonstrate its resolve in the campaign against breast cancer.
“On behalf of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, we present this plaque as a testament to our commitment to the fight against breast cancer.”
The GH¢20,000 contribution supplements the Minister’s individual donation to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, which he indicated was made in recognition of his sister’s circumstances.
Agbodza additionally encouraged Ministry personnel to regard breast cancer screening with appropriate seriousness and cultivate an organizational environment in which health and wellness initiatives are given prominence.
He emphasized that breast cancer awareness initiatives must transcend symbolic gestures such as wearing pink and should instead promote timely identification, professional medical consultation, and assistance for individuals undergoing treatment.
