The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Volta Region is embroiled in an internal conflict over the appointment of new regional officers, as the Regional Secretariat has declared the list announced by Regional Chairman Makafui Kofi Woanyah null and void.
In a statement issued on August 26, 2026, and signed by Shabanton Moses Kwesi Dutsrogbé, the Regional Secretariat said the appointments did not result from a properly convened meeting or a collective decision by the elected Regional Executives.
The Secretariat referenced Article 9(10) of the NPP Constitution, which mandates that elected Regional Officers must, within 14 days of their election and in consultation with the National Executive Committee, appoint regional officers as stipulated in the party’s constitution.
However, it noted that no official meeting of the newly elected Regional Executives had taken place since their election to discuss, consider, or approve the appointments.
Consequently, the Secretariat contended that any appointments made without the necessary consultation and collective deliberation could not be regarded as decisions of the Regional Executives.
This dispute arises in the wake of a separate announcement made by Mr. Woanyah regarding the appointment of 10 regional officers.
Among those appointed are Enyonam Morve as Financial Secretary, Alhassan Samadu as Deputy Organiser, Mercy Kpodo as Deputy Women’s Organiser, Innocent Richard Dzamabi as Deputy Youth Organiser, and Karim Raifu as Deputy Nasara Organiser.
The remaining appointees include Richard Kwadekpo as Electoral Affairs Officer, Ruben Dorcoo as Research Officer, Eric Kwame Akatsi Dumenu as Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Coordinator, Bless Kofi Dunyo as Legal Representative, and Wisdom Jid Gakpo as Regional Special Duties Officer.
Mr. Woanyah’s announcement indicated that the appointments were made in consultation with the National Executive Committee and in accordance with Article 9(2) of the NPP Constitution, as amended in 2025.
The Regional Secretariat, however, has dismissed that stance, asserting that the appointments do not represent a unified decision of the elected Regional Executives and should consequently be ignored.
