The Ghana Police Service has apprehended Sibamay Zakaria, who was seen in a viral video attacking a pastor who had been detained for an alleged offense.
The pastor, Daniel Junior Yaw Adjei, was arrested by the police on Wednesday, August 12, following the circulation of another video on social media in which he purportedly made disparaging and offensive remarks about Prophet Mohammed.
In a Facebook update on Thursday, August 13, the Police Service announced that Zakaria is currently in custody and is cooperating with the investigation into the incident.
The Police indicated that the suspect will be presented in court once the investigations are concluded.
In the meantime, the Police Professional Standards Bureau has initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Bureau aims to ascertain the factors that led to the assault and evaluate the conduct of the officers or other individuals involved.
The Police Service stated that all individuals found responsible will face the appropriate disciplinary actions.
