The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has assured Parliament of the government’s dedication to completing the Bokoro District Hospital project located in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region, aimed at enhancing access to quality healthcare services.
During his address to the House regarding the project’s status on Tuesday, June 16, the Minister disclosed that the construction of the hospital is currently 86.5 percent complete.
He mentioned that this facility has been chosen as one of 35 projects slated for execution under the initial phase of the government’s Agenda 111 programme.
Mr. Akandoh clarified that work on the project was halted in 2024, but he indicated that the contractor has now been engaged to remobilize and recommence construction activities to ensure its timely completion.
Additionally, he revealed that the Ministry of Health has submitted pending Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs) to the Ministry of Finance to facilitate the release of necessary funds for settling payments owed to the contractor.
According to the Minister, the government is actively addressing funding issues and is taking steps to expedite progress on the remaining works, ensuring that the facility can be completed and operationalized as soon as possible.
The Bokoro District Hospital is anticipated to greatly improve healthcare delivery in the Ahanta West Constituency by offering residents enhanced access to essential medical services and alleviating the pressure on existing health facilities in the region.
Mr. Akandoh reiterated the government’s commitment to fortifying Ghana’s healthcare system through strategic investments in health infrastructure, emphasizing that the completion of the Bokoro District Hospital is a priority in the ongoing efforts to broaden access to quality healthcare throughout the nation.
