President John Dramani Mahama has declared what he refers to as significant achievements in employment and poverty alleviation, disclosing that over one million Ghanaians obtained jobs between the first and third quarters of 2025.
In his address to the nation on Friday, February 27, the President referenced data from the Ghana Statistical Service, which shows that around 950,000 individuals also emerged from multidimensional poverty during the same timeframe.
“As per the Ghana Statistical Service, more than 1 million Ghanaians have secured employment from the first quarter to the third quarter of 2025. Approximately 950,000 have risen above multidimensional poverty in the same duration.
“This progress signifies that our economy is strengthening and becoming more resilient on the global front. We are decisively transitioning from planning to implementation regarding our flagship 24-hour economy,” he stated.
Additionally, he reported a notable enhancement in Ghana’s external sector performance, highlighting that by December 2025, the current account had achieved a surplus of $9.1 billion — representing 8.1% of GDP — an increase from 1.8% in 2024.
President Mahama credited this favorable trend to robust export performance in gold, cocoa, and non-traditional exports, along with heightened remittance inflows, characterizing this development as a sign of renewed economic resilience.
