The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has provided reassurance to the public that its recent operations targeting drug dens nationwide will persist as part of its commitment to combat illicit drug activities.
This assurance comes in the wake of intelligence-driven operations carried out in the Eastern and Greater Accra regions, where NACOC successfully dismantled multiple drug dens during a festive-season initiative dubbed “Operation White Ember.”
The coordinated raids focused on identified drug hotspots, including Mamfe and Tutu in the Eastern Region, as well as Madina Redco Flats, Zongo Junction, and the railway slums surrounding Airport City in the Greater Accra Region. A total of 72 suspects were apprehended during these operations.
In an interview on Sunday, December 28, Francis Opoku Amoah, the Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations at NACOC, stated that the Commission is resolute in its efforts to intensify the battle against illicit drugs.
“I want to assure the general public that this will not be a one-time event [raids]. It is an ongoing effort that we will maintain, with the assistance of God, our professional training, guidance, support, and the leadership of our current management. I am confident that we will fulfill all our commitments,” he remarked.
Mr. Amoah encouraged the public to assist the Commission by reporting any suspected drug dens within their neighborhoods.
“Please speak up if you observe any of these activities in your area; we will investigate and take appropriate action,” he urged.
He further noted that NACOC will continue to work in partnership with relevant state agencies to combat illicit drugs, especially those trafficked through the coastal regions of the country.
