President John Dramani Mahama has stated that the government’s initiatives to stabilise food prices are yielding significant results, thanks to intentional policy measures and enhanced management of the nation’s food systems.
During his address at the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration in Ho, the President highlighted that food inflation, which previously reached 28.3%, has experienced a remarkable reduction.
“Food inflation was at 28.3%. Through focused interventions and meticulous management of food systems, I am pleased to announce that food inflation has significantly decreased to 9.5% as of October 2025. This marks a substantial improvement from the 22.8% recorded at the same time last year,” he remarked.
He credited this success to intentional and well-targeted strategies, which included the procurement and distribution of 50,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser and 3,000 metric tonnes of hybrid maize and rice seeds to farmers and national institutions, such as the National Service Authority, churches, the Prison Service, and secondary and tertiary educational institutions.
President Mahama further noted that these investments have enhanced production, fortified local food supply, and alleviated pressure on market prices, thereby contributing to the country’s overarching food security objectives.
