The Ministry of Education has initiated an inquiry into claims circulating on social media that gaining admission to Aburi Girls’ Senior High School incurs a fee of GHC15,000.
This assertion, linked to an individual named Gertrude Adzo Borklo, alleges that the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) Computerized School Placement System is being sold.
However, the Ministry has rejected this claim as untrue and characterized it as part of a “conspiratorial narrative” intended to undermine the system’s credibility.
In a statement released on Thursday, September 25, 2025, the Ministry noted that all efforts to contact the author of the post had been unsuccessful, as her account was deactivated shortly after the post was made. It also mentioned that other anonymous accounts have been promoting similar allegations.
The Ministry stated that it is working in conjunction with National Security, the Cyber Security Authority, and other relevant agencies to identify those responsible for these allegations.
Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, who authored the statement, emphasized that the placement process is completely free of charge.
“At no time is any payment necessary to access this service. We urge the public to provide any information or evidence regarding individuals, whether Ministry officials or third parties, who solicit money for placements. The Ministry promises prompt and decisive action against anyone found guilty,” the statement declared.
The public has been encouraged to report any suspected cases of bribery or extortion through the Ministry’s dedicated hotlines:
- 054 154 8223 (Calls)
- 024 490 8957 (WhatsApp)
The Ministry reiterated its dedication to maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s school placement system and called on citizens to assist in exposing individuals who attempt to exploit the process.
