The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tatale Sanguli constituency of the Northern region has announced the suspension of 58 party members due to allegations of their failure to support the official candidate during the recent elections.
A letter, signed by the constituency chairman and directed to both the national and regional executives, which was reviewed by Citi News, claims that these members acted in opposition to the party’s candidate, a violation of the NPP’s constitution, thus prompting the suspension.
In response, one of the suspended individuals, Napare Prosper, a former communication officer for the constituency, has refuted the allegations. He has given the constituency chairman a 24-hour period to substantiate the claims, insisting on his right to a fair hearing.
“I have come across the letter circulating on social media indicating my suspension for not supporting the Member of Parliament, but I wish to clarify that I did not campaign against the officially endorsed candidate.
“I did not engage in any actions that would undermine the candidate, nor did I violate any provisions of the party’s constitution, and therefore, I request a fair hearing.”
