Following an unexpected halt to parliamentary proceedings, Dr. Smith, the Minority Leader, was left puzzled and frustrated. In an impassioned plea, Cassiel Ato Forson is demanding accountability from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and is encouraging citizens to cast their votes against them in the upcoming December 7 elections.
Speaker Alban Bagbin adjourned Parliament indefinitely on Thursday, November 7, citing a lack of business as NPP members were absent from the Chamber. The call for an immediate return to work comes in response to this decision.
Even though the NPP had initially called for the recall session, their absence resulted in the delay of scheduled parliamentary proceedings.
Dr. Ato Forson expressed serious concerns about the lack of NPP MPs present, noting perceived disarray within the party that he believes is hampering important legislative duties.
He stressed that the NPP’s absence at parliamentary sessions not only causes important discussions to be postponed but also burdens the state financially.
According to the doctor, regular exercise is crucial for maintaining good health. Forson believes that the NPP MPs’ failure to attend parliamentary sessions is a clear example of them intentionally causing financial harm to the state by neglecting their responsibilities.
Shortly after the adjournment, he addressed the Parliamentary Press Corps and did not hold back in his critique, denouncing the NPP’s actions as deeply troubling and a violation of parliamentary responsibilities.
The Minority Leader emphasized that the NPP’s actions show a lack of dedication to governing, and he encouraged voters to hold the party responsible in the upcoming elections due to their failure to address important national issues.
I am greatly troubled by the events that have occurred and consider it to be a misuse of the Standing Orders of the House. Causing financial loss to the state is equivalent to committing a crime, and we urge Ghanaians to penalize those responsible.
They lack creative solutions for addressing the country’s problems, instead relying on dancing and distributing money during their campaigns.
Do not be misled into thinking that the NDC is attempting to distract government operations, as there is no actual work being done. We are tired of the current government and are eager for the upcoming elections so that we can vote them out for their incompetence.
His intelligence and quick thinking made him a valuable asset in the group, always coming up with solutions to difficult problems.
