Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, has called upon Ghanaians to pay tribute to former President Jerry John Rawlings by adhering to the principles of honesty, accountability, justice, and patriotism that characterized his public service.
During a lecture and exhibition held in Accra on Monday, June 22, to commemorate what would have been Rawlings’ 79th birthday, Togbe Afede emphasized that the values espoused by the late President remain significant to Ghana’s pursuit of a prosperous and inclusive society.
The Agbogbomefia remarked that Rawlings’ dedication to integrity, social justice, national unity, and equitable opportunities has profoundly influenced Ghana’s democratic evolution and governance structure.
“The most fitting tribute we can offer to President Rawlings, the highest honor we can bestow upon him, is to steadfastly embrace the principles he championed,” he stated.
Togbe Afede highlighted the consolidation of the Fourth Republic, the creation of district assemblies, and investments in infrastructure, education, agriculture, rural electrification, and local governance as some of the former President’s lasting contributions to national progress.
The event was graced by senior government officials and prominent members of the NDC, including Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
Former President Rawlings passed away on November 12, 2020.
