The Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Anna Naa Adukwei Addo through the Department of Social Protection and Community Development, on Wednesday 29th December, 2021 presented items and disbursed cheques to the person with disabilities (PWDS) in the Municipality.

The items which include, double decker Deep Freezers, wheelchairs, Fufu pounding machine medical supplies and other contraptions were procured by the Assembly out of the three (3) percent allocation of PWDs from the District Assembly Common Funds (DACF) to enhance their livelihoods.

The items were procured based on request after needs assessment was conducted by the department.
In all, 16 beneficiaries including 10 males 6 female which 3 children with urgent surgical needs benefited from the GH¢45000,00 package, were selected subject to a vetting process. some of the beneficiaries received cash of cheques to foot their medical bills whiles others got capital to be reinvested into their collapsing business.
Presenting the items to the PWDs, Hon. Anna Naa Adukwei Addo, indicated that, since the year 2018 up to 2021, the Assembly through the Department of Social Protection and community Development and the Disability fund management committee have been able to register to total of about 350 people with disability and have disbursed funds to One Hundred and two (102) PWDs.
She hinted that, the Assembly has disbursed a total of Two Hundred and Thirty-Eight Thousand, Six Hundred and Thirty Ghana Cedis (GH¢238,630,00) to the beneficiaries within the Municipality.

She said, the Assembly has better plans to promote the welfare of all PWDs in the Municipality and pledge the Assembly support to facilitate programmes that will enhance the wellbeing of all PWDs.
“Our recent findings on the field revealed that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, lots of our brothers and sisters were unable to put their funds to good use hence their inability to account for monies received. A challenging situation one cannot lose sight of. In view of this i therefore encourage all beneficiaries here today to put money, and equipment’s received to good use” she urged.
She indicated that, government through the Assembly was committed to empowering Ghanaians irrespective of their circumstance in life and would continue to pro-poor policies to reach out to all.
On her part Mrs. Clara Sowah, the Municipal Director, Department of Social Protection and Community Development, stated that plans were afoot to provide container grocery shop for some beneficiaries.
She said the intervention was meant to make PWDs self-Sufficient and empower them to contribute meaningfully to societal and national development.
Mrs. Clara Sowah later stated that, the department had recorded 350 PWDs who were being supported in diverse ways, citing the distribution of food items to them to promote their wellbeing.
