The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has declared the dismissal of nearly 100 employees at Ghana Post, attributing this action to irregularities in their hiring procedures.
He indicated that this move is part of a broader rationalization initiative to enhance operational efficiency within the ministry and its affiliated agencies.
During a press conference on Tuesday, the minister elaborated on the difficulties he encountered upon taking office, particularly regarding a huge workforce.
“As a minister, inheriting a ministry with 3,117 personnel across its agencies, including 600 who were recruited after December 7, presents a significant challenge. It is unreasonable to expect me to accept such a disorganized situation, hence the ongoing rationalization,” he remarked.
Sam George disclosed that the recent terminations specifically affected those hired after the December 7 elections, a timeframe he characterized as problematic for appropriate recruitment practices.
“Today, I have approved the termination of nearly 100 additional staff at Ghana Post, all of whom were employed post-election,” he stated.
The minister reaffirmed his dedication to promoting efficiency and accountability within the ministry, highlighting that the rationalization process will persist in the sector.
