On October 24, 2024, Rev.Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, founder of Worldwide Miracle Outreach, issued an apology to the University of Ghana (UG) for remarks he made during an appearance on GTV’s Breakfast Show.
In his remarks, Reverend. According to Dr. Tetteh, a substantial portion of UG students have tested positive for HIV, which he believes is a result of promiscuity among the student population.
His remarks caused alarm, especially with his statement about the high number of young boys and girls in Legon who are HIV positive.
The University of Ghana emphasized the significance of evidence-based discussions on HIV/AIDS, cautioning against the spread of misinformation as it could result in unwarranted fear and stigma.
The university made it clear that only scientific methods, not speculation or anecdotes, should be relied upon for accurately diagnosing HIV. UG emphasized that assessing HIV status through counselling or prayer is not reliable. They emphasized that only scientific methods can accurately diagnose infections and warned against making public statements without solid evidence.

But in a statement dated 29, Reverend. Dr. Tetteh expressed regret, clarifying that his intention was not to undermine the university or spread fear, stigma, or misinformation.
He clarified that his goal was to shed light on the larger societal issues impacting young people, rather than specifically focusing on UG students.
The Reverend led the congregation in a heartfelt prayer before delivering a moving sermon on the importance of kindness and empathy in today’s world. The parishioners sat in rapt attention, hanging on his every word as he spoke about the powerful impact of small acts of compassion. The Reverend’s words resonated deeply with his audience, inspiring them to go out and spread love and goodwill in their community. Dr. Tetteh explained that his remarks were based on his interactions with young individuals who confide in him about their personal challenges during counseling sessions.
He reassured every one of his dedication to keeping information private and recognized the unintended consequences of his comments. He sincerely apologized to UG and the public for any discomfort his words may have caused.
