The President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, is scheduled to visit Ghana from November 3 to 4 as part of a three-nation tour of Africa that also includes Egypt and Angola.
During his time in Ghana, President Steinmeier will engage in discussions with civil society representatives and start-up founders to identify ways to enhance cooperation in innovation and development.
On November 4, he is set to meet the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in Kumasi, where he is anticipated to gain insights into ongoing German-Ghanaian partnerships in vaccine research and vocational training. This visit marks President Steinmeier’s second trip to Ghana, following his initial visit in December 2017.
Prior to his arrival in Ghana, the German leader will participate in the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo from November 1–2, at the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. This museum, one of the largest archaeological sites globally, will display over 100,000 artifacts, including the entire collection from Tutankhamun’s tomb.
The President will also hold bilateral discussions with President El-Sisi regarding regional developments during his time in Egypt.
After his visit to Ghana, President Steinmeier will proceed to Angola from November 5–7, making him the first German President to visit the nation.
His trip coincides with Angola’s 50th independence anniversary and its leadership of the African Union.
While in Angola, he will conduct political discussions with President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, meet with German and Angolan business leaders, and engage with young Angolans about opportunities for youth.
Additionally, he will tour EU-supported infrastructure projects under the Lobito Corridor initiative, which links Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Zambia.
