The Ghana Police Service, through the Koforidua Municipal Investigative Team led by Augustine Asante Kusi, has conducted strict surveillance that led to the apprehension of three individuals involved in a counterfeit cash syndicate operating in both the Greater Accra Region and the Eastern Region.
The arrested individuals, Ebenezer Natsu (20), George Attor (48), and Bishop Robert Olertey (54), were taken into custody by the Odumase-Krobo Police, who discovered 105 bundles of counterfeit US dollars in denominations of $100, amounting to a total of $1,050,000 in their possession.
The counterfeit currency was hidden within a black and red-spotted metal trunk located at their hideout in Laasi, a suburb of Odumase-Krobo.
As per police sources, the undercover operation that culminated in the arrest of the three suspects on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, was initiated based on intelligence provided to the Odumase-Krobo Police, under the direction of D/Cpl Williams Asante.
According to police sources, the suspects were reportedly preparing to circulate the counterfeit notes in the market in exchange for Ghana cedis, taking advantage of the market day in Odumase-Krobo.
Additionally, police sources revealed that one of the suspects, Bishop Robert Olertey, allegedly attempted to bribe the officers with GH¢200,000 in genuine cash in a bid to resolve the matter and evade arrest.
Nevertheless, the officers declined the offer and proceeded with the apprehension of the suspects, who were subsequently transported along with the evidence to the Odumase-Krobo District Police Command for further investigation.
The suspects and the evidence have since been transferred to the Akosombo Police Division, overseen by Chief Superintendent Doris Grant, for further investigation and appropriate action.
Furthermore, police reported that on Friday, March 13, 2026, suspect Ebenezer Natsu (20) was brought before the Odumase Circuit Court to be remanded in custody to assist with ongoing investigations, while the other two suspects were granted police enquiry bail.
