The National Labour Commission (NLC) has instructed the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) to halt any proposed industrial action, as it seeks to address a dispute concerning the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission’s (GTEC) purported failure to comply with a prior ruling.
In a statement released on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the Commission confirmed receipt of GAUA’s petition regarding this issue and referred all involved parties to its previous communication dated June 9, which mandated discussions between GAUA and GTEC. The NLC established a deadline of July 9, 2025, for both parties to report the results of those discussions.
“The Union is therefore instructed to abstain from any planned actions… as the parties are scheduled to appear before the Commission on July 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. for reporting,” the statement indicated.
Additionally, GTEC has been directed to provide a formal response concerning the allegation of non-compliance by the end of business on Friday, June 27. Should the Commission’s directives be met, GTEC is obligated to present supporting documentation to that effect.
