Former Auditor General Dominic Yao Domelevo has asserted that the newly appointed ministers, who took their oaths on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, should have disclosed their assets prior to their swearing-in ceremony.
President John Dramani Mahama administered the oath to six ministers at the Jubilee House in Accra, emphasizing the importance of asset declaration.
In an interview on Thursday, January 23, Domelevo highlighted that mandating ministers to declare their assets and liabilities before assuming office would enhance transparency and foster public confidence in the government.
He proposed that this action would represent a crucial step in combating corruption and nurturing a culture of accountability within Ghana’s political framework.
“If I were the president, which I am not, I would have instructed them to declare their assets and liabilities following the vetting process, prior to their swearing-in,” Domelevo remarked.
He further noted, “This straightforward yet impactful measure could serve as a fundamental element in Ghana’s battle against corruption and establish a precedent for a more accountable government.”
