The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has defended his current nationwide thank-you tour, stating that it is his duty to express gratitude to party members and supporters for their contributions to the NDC’s anticipated victory in the 2024 elections.
This tour represents the second phase of post-election interactions by the NDC Chairman since the party took office in January 2025.
However, it has drawn criticism from various segments of the public and political analysts, who contend that such tours are generally conducted by a presidential candidate rather than the party chairman—especially when the party is in power.
While addressing party supporters in the Hohoe Constituency on Tuesday, October 14, Asiedu Nketia refuted the criticisms, asserting that his actions are consistent with the NDC’s enduring tradition of gratitude and solidarity.
“Those who disagree with me can continue with that, and I will continue to honour my promise. That is why I am here,” he stated. “It also aligns perfectly with our tradition that when you request something from someone and receive it, the next step is to express your thanks. That is why I have come to convey my gratitude to everyone.”
He stressed that the tour is not intended as a display of political theatrics but rather a sincere acknowledgment of the grassroots members, volunteers, and supporters who worked diligently to facilitate the NDC’s return to power.
