The government has articulated a comprehensive set of interventions to address grievances presented by striking teacher unions following a consultation with the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu.
In accordance with these interventions, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission is scheduled to convene with the unions on Tuesday, October 6, to deliberate on their collective bargaining agreement and employment conditions.
According to a statement issued by the Education Ministry, a task force headed by the Minister of Labour and Employment has been established to authenticate information regarding the government’s pledge to introduce a 20% deprived-area allowance commencing January 2027.
Furthermore, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service has been instructed to furnish documentation concerning promoted teachers to the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department prior to the conclusion of this week.
This submission is anticipated to expedite the disbursement of compensation and outstanding payments due to teachers who received promotions by October.
Notwithstanding the remedial measures announced by the government, the striking teacher unions have indicated their intention to maintain their strike action following their engagement with the Education Minister.
