The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has issued a strong condemnation regarding the unlawful removal of reinforcement from the retaining wall at the Tantra Hill underpass along the Achimota-Ofankor section of the N6 highway.
In a public statement released on May 14, 2025, the GHA, representing the Ministry of Roads and Highways, addressed a viral video shared by Buzzstopboys that depicted exposed steel reinforcements at the location.
The Authority disclosed that a prior engineering evaluation had detected localized spalling on the wall, which led to the exposure of the rebars and subsequent theft by dishonest individuals.
The GHA reassured the public that, despite the damage, the underpass remains structurally sound and secure. It also indicated that repair work will commence shortly to avert further deterioration.
The Authority cautioned that interfering with public infrastructure constitutes a criminal offense under the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (LI 2180), and encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or the GHA’s Public Affairs Division.
