A fire has severely damaged sections of the Kwapong Nursing Training College located in the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region.
Students were observed fleeing to safety as firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service endeavored to control the flames.
The origin of the fire remains unknown; however, officials have stated that investigations are currently in progress to ascertain the cause of the incident.
This event has instigated panic among both students and staff, leading to an emergency response from local security and fire personnel.
Firefighters from the Kukuom and Goaso Fire Stations in the Ahafo Region effectively managed to control the fire.
As reported by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the emergency call was received at 7:12 a.m., with the Kukuom fire crew arriving at the location by 7:30 a.m. Reinforcements from the Goaso Municipal Fire Station subsequently joined, and the collaborative efforts of both teams successfully contained the fire by 8:45 a.m., with complete extinguishment achieved by 10:26 a.m.
Initial investigations suggest that the fire originated in one of the rooms on the first floor of a single-storey dormitory block before spreading to six additional rooms. The incident resulted in the destruction of the roof, ceiling, personal belongings, books, beds, and bedding. Furthermore, two fire extinguishers located on the affected floor exploded during the incident.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and investigations are still ongoing to determine the precise cause of the fire.
