Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate for the 2024 Presidential election, has praised the Oquaye Committee for its report, which he characterized as both “thorough and insightful” regarding the party’s future direction.
In his remarks on Wednesday, April 23, at the NPP headquarters in Accra, Dr. Bawumia expressed appreciation for the committee’s hard work and strategic suggestions, which he believes will guide the party towards unity and electoral success.
He remarked, “The Oquaye Committee’s efforts demonstrate not only significant intellectual depth but also a solid grasp of our party’s principles and the hopes of the Ghanaian populace.” He emphasized that the report encapsulates essential lessons from previous elections, introduces creative strategies for party organization, and emphasizes the importance of inclusivity and grassroots participation.
Dr. Bawumia concluded by stating that the NPP is at a pivotal moment, and the committee’s insights are timely and invaluable.
The Oquaye Committee, led by former Speaker of Parliament Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, was assigned the responsibility of evaluating the internal structures of the party and providing strategic recommendations to enhance the long-term viability of the NPP.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that many of the committee’s suggestions would be incorporated into the forthcoming ‘Thank You Tour’, which is designed to strengthen party support across the nation and foster direct engagement with voters. ‘We must enhance our listening, improve our actions, and maintain unity as we prepare for the 2024 general elections,’ he stated.
Dr. Bawumia further encouraged party members to thoroughly review the report and align their efforts with its suggestions. ‘This report is not solely for the leadership; it is intended for every member of the NPP family. Let us accept it, put it into action, and move forward together towards success in December,’ he concluded.
