The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has extended his congratulations to President-elect John Dramani Mahama following his recent re-election.
In a Facebook message dated December 9, Speaker Bagbin emphasized the importance of Mahama’s triumph, asserting that the citizens of Ghana have made a clear choice to restore the nation.
He expressed his desire for divine support to accompany Mahama during this challenging time for the country.
“Ghanaians have boldly and decisively reset the presidency to rejuvenate the nation. Congratulations, Your Excellency, John Dramani Mahama, president-elect and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces.
“The Almighty God who has brought you back will guide you during this critical period when our nation faces significant challenges. Once again, congratulations!”
The Electoral Commission (EC) confirmed Mahama’s victory on Monday, December 9, with a total of 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the valid votes cast. He defeated his main opponent, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who received 4,657,304 votes, accounting for 41.61%.
Mahama’s victory also signifies a notable accomplishment for his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which has secured a majority in Parliament.
The NDC has already confirmed over 160 seats, including several key constituencies that have traditionally been held by the ruling NPP. This success further solidifies Mahama’s mandate as he prepares to take on the presidency once more.
