Parliament is scheduled to initiate the vetting process for the initial group of ministerial nominees put forth by President John Dramani Mahama today, Monday, January 13, 2025.
The vetting will commence with Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam and the current Majority Leader, who has been nominated for the position of Minister of Finance.
Ato Forson’s nomination arrives at a critical juncture for Ghana’s economy, which is grappling with significant challenges such as elevated inflation rates, increasing public debt, and demands for sustainable economic reforms.
This constitutional procedure will be conducted by the Appointments Committee of Parliament, which was established on January 9, 2025.
Following Dr. Forson, the committee will review the nomination of John Abdulai Jinapor, who has been designated as Minister of Energy.
Jinapor, a seasoned politician and former Deputy Minister of Energy, is anticipated to tackle urgent issues within Ghana’s energy sector, including inconsistent power supply, the advancement of renewable energy, and the management of energy sector debt.
His vetting is expected to shed light on his strategies for stabilizing and transforming the sector to accommodate the needs of a burgeoning economy.
Lastly, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, nominated as the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice-designate, will be the final nominee to appear before the Appointments Committee.
The lawmaker from Bolgatanga East, a distinguished legal expert, academic, and former Deputy Attorney-General, is recognized for his proficiency in constitutional law and governance.
In his capacity as the principal legal advisor to the government, he is anticipated to play a crucial role in fostering the rule of law, implementing legal reforms, and ensuring justice for all citizens of Ghana.
