The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has declared that the assets belonging to the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Abdul-Wahab Hanan, along with his spouse, Faiza Seidu Wuni, have been frozen, with measures being implemented to facilitate their confiscation.
During the Government Accountability Series held on Wednesday, October 22, Dr. Ayine revealed that investigators have placed a freeze on a fixed deposit account owned by Mr. Hanan at the Labone Branch of Republic Bank in Accra, which holds GHS10 million.
Furthermore, he mentioned that numerous vehicles and more than 61 luxury handbags associated with the couple have also been confiscated as part of the ongoing investigations.
Dr. Ayine emphasized that this action is part of the broader initiative to recover state funds that were allegedly misappropriated during Mr. Hanan’s leadership at NAFCO and to avert the potential dissipation of suspected criminal proceeds.
“We have frozen all these assets and will be taking steps to have them confiscated by the state in the course of the criminal proceedings. Additionally, regarding liquid assets, we have frozen a fixed deposit account belonging to Mr. Hanan containing GHS 10,000,000.00 with Republic Bank, Labone Branch, Accra. Moreover, we have also frozen several vehicles and over 61 luxury handbags,” he disclosed.
The couple is also alleged to have acquired the following properties:
- 17-bedroom boutique hotel located in Gumani, Tamale, for which the couple utilized Fa-Hausa Company Limited to enter into a franchise agreement with Villa Monticello for $250,000.00, thereby concealing the hotel under the Villa Monticello brand name.
- 4-bedroom bungalow located in Dworwulu, Accra, valued at GHS4,142,451.00.
- 3-storey building (Chicken Republic) situated at Estate Junction, Tamale;
- 5-bedroom mansion located at Kanvili, Dorado Street, Tamale;
- 3-bedroom house in Kpalsi, Tamale;
- 1-storey building at No. 10 Selby Gardens, Achimota, Accra;
- 27-acre plot of land at Estate Junction, Tamale;
- 29-acre land parcel near Workers College, Tamale.
