The Assemblies of God, Ghana, has issued a firm advisory to its pastors and members, cautioning them against enrolling in or utilizing qualifications obtained from unaccredited tertiary institutions.
This advisory follows a formal notice released by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on Monday, 20 October 2025, which identified 50 unrecognized tertiary institutions operating without the necessary accreditation.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 21, and signed by the General Superintendent of the church, Rev. Stephen Y. Wengam, the Assemblies of God urged pastors to confirm the accreditation status of any institution with GTEC before pursuing further studies.
“As part of the Executive Presbytery’s efforts to eliminate unaccredited degrees and qualifications from the church environment, pastors are advised against enrolling in such institutions or utilizing certificates obtained from them,” the statement indicated.
The church further stressed that any qualifications acquired from unaccredited institutions — including doctorates or professional certificates — would not be acknowledged within the Assemblies of God.
GTEC’s previous statement, signed by its Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, clarified that the listed institutions did not meet the necessary accreditation and quality assurance standards, warning the public and heads of tertiary institutions against engaging with them.
Consequently, the leadership of the Assemblies of God has encouraged all pastors to exercise due diligence and maintain integrity in their pursuit of higher education.
