The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) is actively overseeing the 21-day deadline it has set for all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Greater Accra Region to eliminate unauthorized billboards positioned along road medians and highways.
The Managing Director of the NRSA, Abraham Amaliba, disclosed that compliance notices have been issued to 29 MMDAs, instructing them to remove billboards that endanger pedestrian safety or distract drivers.
During an interview on Wednesday, April 30, 2024, Amaliba emphasized that the Authority is prepared to pursue legal action against any assembly that does not comply within the designated timeframe.
“I have sent compliance notices to 29 municipal and district assemblies in Greater Accra. They are responsible for issuing licenses to advertising companies and for the installation of the billboards, which must be removed.
If they fail to act within 21 days, we will enforce the law by initiating legal proceedings against them in court,” he stated.
He further clarified that this directive is part of ongoing initiatives aimed at improving road and pedestrian safety in Accra, in response to public concerns regarding billboards that obstruct visibility and create distractions, especially near footbridges intended for public safety.
