The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), in partnership with the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, will initiate a significant decongestion initiative in the capital today, May 2025.
The initial phase of this operation will concentrate on the vicinity of the AMA Head Office and its adjacent areas, including Kinbu Road to Railways, ECG Junction to the King Tackie Tawiah Statue, and Opera Square to Adabraka.
In a media briefing, AMA Public Relations Officer Gilbert Ankrah stated that the effort will be intensified along critical routes, particularly from Wato Junction through the King Tackie Tawiah School area to Cow Lane.
‘The strategy is clear, with a primary emphasis on the regions surrounding the AMA Head Office.
All sectors within that area will be addressed. Additionally, the focus will be directed towards the Accra City Hotel and Mövenpick Hotel locations,’ Mr. Ankrah remarked.
Prior to the decongestion, AMA Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey engaged with street vendors in the Central Business District (CBD) and urged them to collaborate with the authorities to restore order.
Mr. Allotey noted that this initiative is part of a larger vision for urban development in line with the forthcoming 24-hour economy policy.
